Balearics selected for candidate Important Marine Mammal Area!
The IUCN Marine Mammal Protected Areas Task Force has selected our proposal to identify the waters of the Balearic Islands as a candidate Important Marine Mammal Area (IMMA) to go forward into a process to select areas for special protection. This is an important step in the road to achieving legislative protection for the sperm whales we study! The process occured at a workshop in November 2016, and the candidate areas will go forward to be considered at further meetings before a final list is agreed upon. See more details here.
