BSWP 2016 fieldwork – St Andrews team!
In July 2016 a team of students from the University of St Andrews joined the project for a week of tracking sperm whales. It was a successful trip with whales located and identified on 5 of the 6 days at sea (with wind on the last day meaning whales were replaced by some rather sporty sailing). Many thanks to all the volunteers who came with an amazing positive attitude!
We had good weather, and had multiple sperm whale encounters as well as sightings of other cetaceans species. This map shows where we looked (‘effort’ in technical-speak – the blue line):
